FOC/LSM SPANISH HERITAGE TRAINING SESSIONS

Dear Spanish Language Educator,
You are invited to the Friends of the Cabildo (FOC) Spanish Heritage Program planning session for Spanish teachers. You can opt for attending either of two sessions in Baton Rouge or New Orleans.
The first session is on Wednesday, June 22nd from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. The planning session will be held at the Capitol Park Museum in Baton Rouge.
The second session will be held on Saturday, July 2nd at The Cabildo in New Orleans.
There is no charge to participate in either session. Pre-registration is required as space is limited. If you are interested, please register by calling the FOC at 504.523.3939 or by emailing [email protected]. The objective of the session is to provide an overview of the FOC Spanish Heritage Program for Spanish classes. Teachers will review the materials and field trips prepared by the Friends of the Cabildo and the Louisiana State Museum, Teachers will experience firsthand what students will see during the Spanish Heritage field trips to either city.
The agenda is as follows:
8:30– 9:00 Registration, Opening Remarks.
9:00 – 10:00 Review of the Program & Materials.
10:00 - 11:00 Spanish Town Walking Tour or French Quarter Walking Tour.
11:00 to 12:00 - Capitol Park Museum exhibit review or The Cabildo exhibit review.
12:00 - 1:00 - working lunch at Museum provided by LSM.
1:00 - 2:00 - History and Culture presentation.
2:00 – 3:00 Review FOC recommended Lesson plans (Spanish Louisiana during the American Revolution; Ports and Tourism and Louisiana’s Mexico Connections).
3:00 – 4:00 Wrap-up
The objective of the wrap up session is to determine what the FOC can do to improve the Spanish Class Program. Recommendations and ideas discussed will allow us to come up with a program that meets the individual needs of each teacher and their students at all levels. .
